The Affordable NE School Vacation Week Your Family Will Love

February 9th, 2017 by Hawthorn Inn B&B

A vacation in MidCoast Maine is the affordable NE school vacation week your family will love! Regardless if your family loves the great outdoors, or prefers being inside, MidCoast Maine offers a cost-effective way to vacation with your children.

Outdoor NE School Vacation Week Activities

There are a wide range of outdoor activities available at the Camden Snow Bowl.  Granted, you would not choose to come to ski in Camden if you are an avid Black Diamond skier or if every family member has been skiing for years and years.

Ski school at the Camden Snow Bowl

The Camden Snow Bowl has 1000 feet of vertical drop. It is the perfect ski and snowboard vacation for families and individual skiers not looking for black diamond challenges. All of the runs end at the lodge. Everyone ends up in the same place.  Less potential to lose the little ones.  Professional ski instructors offer group and private lessons daily. During school vacation week, there are a number of special instructional classes. Lift tickets are much less expensive than the large resorts in Maine. One can even buy half day lift ticket or beginner lift tickets to try it out to see if you like it. To see how Camden Snow Bowl compares to other ski areas in Maine including cost of lift tickets, click here.  In addition to Snow Bowl activities, there are multiple cross country ski and snow shoe trails on the MidCoast with amazing views.

If skiing or snowboarding is not your thing, but your family has the need for speed, you might enjoy the adrenaline rush of the toboggan chute. The Toboggan chute is open from 9 am to 4 pm weather permitting and the cost is $5 per person per hour using your own toboggan plus an additional $10 per hour per group using one of their rented toboggans. I personally have not mustered up the courage to try the toboggan chute, but I understand it is great.  Check out this Cute Potato’s blog for a view of the ride and a description of their experience last year.

In Last month’s blog, I blogged about the ice sculptures and snow sculptures as a part of Witnerfest. The current weather forecast calls for cold temperatures until NE School Vacation Week so these will still be a sight to see.  Check out Ted and some of the local innkeepers’ ice carving of a pineapple, the universal symbol of hospitality.
