Hawthorn Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Historic High Street District. This designation does not exempt the Hawthorn Inn from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Under Title III of the ADA, owners of “public accommodations” must make “readily achievable” changes; that is, changes that can be easily accomplished without much expense. Due to the age and nature of the building and the size and resources of our small business, ADA compliance is a challenge. We assess accessibility features on an ongoing basis.
The Hawthorn Inn is committed to complying with the ADA requirements for hotel rooms as described in 28 CFR §36.302 (e) (1) (ii). We have the following accessible features:
- First floor guest rooms with limited steps to access the room
- 6 steps with handrail to enter the Main House
- 3 steps with handrail to access walk way to Carriage House, then 2 single steps into Carriage House
- Walk-in showers with handheld showerhead
- Portable shower seat is available
- ADA-compliant toilets, 17 to 19 inches from floor to seat
- Grab bar near toilet
- Raised toilet seat is available on request
- Accessible meeting/dining room in Main House
- Breakfast can be delivered to first floor rooms
- Closed Captioning TV option
- Two parking spaces adjacent to guest entrance
